Advanced options
Anti-forgery background

Overlays a faint diagonal security texture that does not affect readability and lowers the risk of forgery. On by default; turn off for a plain white background.

Texture seed text

The texture is generated from this text (the text itself is not shown or printed). Defaults to a name on the document; clear to restore default.

Tip: in the print dialog choose "Save as PDF", set paper to A4 and margins to "None" for the best result.

How to use & sign
  1. Sign by hand above your printed name and add the date; bring photo ID that matches the letter.
  2. For a company, an authorized representative signs and states their name and title — a corporate seal is not required (it is optional under, e.g., the UK Companies Act 2006).
  3. If the recipient requires it (banks, embassies, government offices), have your signature witnessed or notarized by a notary public.
  4. Keep the authority specific and time-limited; for ongoing control over finances or property, a formal — often notarized — power of attorney may be required instead.
  5. This is a template, not legal advice; consult a qualified attorney for important matters.

An authorization letter lets you give another person permission to act on your behalf — to collect a document, sign for a delivery, access an account, or handle a transaction when you cannot be there yourself. Fill in the details above to generate a clear, dated letter of authorization and download it as a print-ready PDF, free and without signing up.

When you need an authorization letter

Use one when you need someone to act for you: picking up a passport, parcel, or medical record; representing you at a bank, school, or government office; or handling a one-off transaction in your absence. It tells the third party exactly what the named person may do.

What to include

A complete authorization letter names you (the person granting authority) and the person being authorized, states precisely what they may do, and gives the date or single occasion it applies to. Sign and date it; many offices also ask for a copy of your ID alongside the letter.

Keep it specific

Limit the authority to the exact task and time period you intend rather than open-ended permission. A narrow, dated authorization protects you and is more readily accepted by banks and government offices.

Frequently asked questions

What is an authorization letter used for?

It gives a named person written permission to act for you on a specific task — collecting documents, signing for deliveries, accessing accounts, or representing you at an office when you cannot attend in person.

Does an authorization letter need to be notarized?

Often not, for everyday tasks like collecting a parcel or document. Banks, courts, and some government offices may require notarization or your ID; check the receiving party's requirements first.

How specific should the authorization be?

As specific as possible. Name the exact task, the authorized person, and the date or period it covers. Narrow, time-limited authority is safer and more widely accepted than open-ended permission.

Is this authorization letter generator free?

Yes — complete the form, preview the letter, and download a print-ready A4 PDF at no charge and with no sign-up.
